Hi, I downloaded the deb package from Libre Office website and built the output using commands to get Libre Office 6.4 installed on my Ubuntu 18.04 laptop. So far so good, thanks to you. But now 6.4.1 is available and I don’t think it will update automatically. What can I do now ? Please help.
Same procedure as with 6.4.0 - Download, extract tar archive(s) and dpkg -i *.deb
I already have 6.3. Now if I do this, there will be 6.4 and 6.4.1, right ? Thanks.
No - 6.4.1 will replace 6.4.0, otherwise I hadn’t commented the way I did, since you where talking about update, which for me includes replace the existing release. In general you can’t have LibreOffice r.v.m1 and r.v.m2 at the same time on a Linux system (If r.v differ, then you can have two releases, which is the case in 6.3 and 6.4) - See also the path in /opt
, which is /opt/libreoffice6.4
, which means that all packages with 6.4, regardless of their respective minor levels go to the same installation path.
But you could avoid all the heck, if you don’t like it (at the cost of some delay in release dates) if you use the LibreOffice PPA (sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
), which provides LibreOffice fresh
Thanks. This I went for download + dpkg command. I will try the PPA later. So nice of you to help.
BTW: When will LibreOffice 6.4.1 available via PPA?
Thanks!
- Thank you for proposing your solution of @meetdilip’s problem! Or not? then did you even try to read this site’s rules?
- Did you try to learn what PPA (Personal Package Archive) means? It 's personal; and if you refer to this PPA, then it’s the property of “LibreOffice Packaging” team - which you should ask questions like yours.
Unfortunately, the ppa does not upgrade my 6.3 to 6.4. It always holds back the upgrade (since more than 3 months). I could not find a reason.
I am running 18.04. Do I really need to completely re-install libreoffice? Then I’ll better wait until I upgrade to 20.04.
Please be specific, which “the ppa” you refer to. There are a number of PPAs out there for LibreOffice; e.g., there’s a PPA dedicated to 6.3 (which will not upgrade your LO to 6.4 if you used that PPA).
