Upgrade the dictionary

It would be a great help if the dictionary were more extensive. I refer to the fact that I get spell-check underlining for a great many common words, or at least their variations, such as as adverbs and prepositions, as well as plural versions or possessive versions of a word (using an apostrophe), or because a word is at the end of a sentence, with or without a terminal period (decide between “them” and “them.”) is annoying. Stopping to tell the dictionary that ‘Dorians’ is acceptable even though it is not ‘Dorian’ is likewise a pain.

Further, the options given are sometimes weird. For instance, I write this as I look upon my use of “monolithically”. The options given include
monolithic ally
monolithic-ally
monotonically
monolithic (and)
monastically.

Some include several dozen completely illogical options, and even the short ones are weird, such as thinking that ‘Akkadians’ was really ‘Canadians’ misspelled. I really wish you would include a much more comprehensive dictionary.

The English (USA) dictionary was maintained by a different person. This year the English(USA) dictionary will be updated and maintained by the same person who has been maintaining the other English dictionaries which are more up-to-date, English (UK) does include monolithically and Dorians.

It might be a matter of waiting for improvements.

Okay. I can do that, but do you have an indication of when? At least the month?

You may look at tdf#167649 or you could try an alternative dictionary, English Dictionary » Libreoffice Extensions but that might not yet have newer words in it

Thanks. I have the English dictionary you suggested already installed, as well as a couple of others on that list, but others refuse to install. Oh well. As for the bug reports, I frankly don’t know what to do with them yet, but I’ll poke around a bit.
