User-defined index

I have two questions about user-defined index in odt files:

  1. it is possible to have several user-defined indexes? And, if it is so, how?
  2. how can group the entries of an user-defined index, like in an alphabetical one? Because so far I see many entries if the expression occurs many times within the odt file…
    Thanks!

EDIT
I noticed, to answer to my first question, that I can create several user-defined indexes, when I add a new entry, by clicking on the icon al top right of the dialog pop-up window.

User-defined indexes are badly named. They don’t behave as Alphabetical Index but rather as a TOC or “Table of …”, i.e. entries are listed in page order without duplicate removal.

Presently Writer allows for a single Alphabetical Index only. There is no known work around this limitation.

EDIT

I forgot to mention (as you discovered) that you can create as many “user-defined indexes” as you like. They just make other “Tables of …” because their entries are listed in document order.
