User interface (UI) - checkboxes difficult to see

I’m having trouble seeing checkboxes in the user interface of LibreOffice. It is particularly difficult in dark mode, but light mode is still difficult. Is there any way to use a heavier checkmark and/or ensure the checkmark is black (I think it might be dark gray). Changing the icon pack doesn’t affect it unfortunately.

Version: 24.2.3.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community

In this case Windows 11 might be doing it better with a blue background to the ticked boxes, but maybe you have a contrast setting also set that inhibits colours.

Have you tried using one of the Windows contrast themes? The following is with Aquatic theme from Windows start menu > Settings > Accessibility > Contrast themes

Windows 10 does not have these settings.

Windows 10 does have Windows start menu > Settings > Ease of Access > High Contrast > High Contrast black which is not too dissimilar to Aquatic but with a purple surround. There are some other high contrast themes there too.

Yes it does, but this changes everything including other apps. I only have this problem in LibreOffice. Other apps display the blue backed checkmark like you have shown above.

LibreOffice uses operating system settings for dialogues on the basis that is if there is an issue with size, contrast, etc. there should be just one place to set the sizes, etc. It seems that Windows 11 has fixed something after all and it isn’t all form over function.

You could increase text scale to say 125% in Windows start menu > Settings > Ease of Access > Display but again that will affect all programs.

Or, as the Options dialogue is used infrequently, consider using Magnifier to check the settings, Windows start menu > Settings > Ease of Access > Magnifier. There is keyboard shortcut of WinKey+Plus(+) to turn it on and WinKey+Esc to turn it off

Check if you have enabled high contrast in LibreOffice settings:

High contrast was set to Automatic, but I have tested with both Enabled and Disabled and it makes no difference to the checkboxes. It only seems to affect the icons.
