Using Navigator in Writer - How to move around without choosing?

When using the Navigator in LibreOffice Writer,

  • a single-click transfers the focus to the Navigator pane without modifying cursor position in the document,
  • a double-click focuses in the Navigator item and immediately transfers the focus back into the document, setting the cursor at strt of the heading.

But the double-click also chooses the item and I have to press Esc each time to click elsewhere in the Navigator otherwise it Inserts it as Hyperlink / Link / Copy, depending on which is selected in the Drag Mode.

Is there a way not to choose one option in the Drag Mode?

Just double-clicking selects the object and places the text cursor there but does nothing else. It only inserts as something if you drag from Navigator into the document, see Dragging-and-Dropping Within a LibreOffice Document

Icon Drag Mode

If you drag objects out of the Navigator, you can specify in the sub-menu of the Navigator's Drag Mode icon whether to copy the object, insert it as a link or insert it as a hyperlink.

I can double-click sequentially anywhere in Navigator without affecting the document. I know this because if I open a document, double-click several different items in Navigator and then close the document, it does not ask me to save.

LibreOffice 25.2 does not list a drag mode in Navigator but gives you a selection menu when you drag from Navigator into the document
DragFromNavigatorIntoDocument

Just double-clicking selects the object and places the text cursor there but does nothing else. It only inserts as something if you drag from Navigator into the document,

This is not how it works with me, the double-clicking selects as well and I have to click again to unselect the object in the Navigator. This is very annoying.
I am using LO Ver. 24.2.7.2 on Linux Mint.
