My current novel features a comedian. I had indented his performance using the Tab key. My editor says this will mess with the ePub layout. She says I should use the Styles menu option. How do I accomplish that? (I’ve searched the help menu to no avail.) Thank you.
The long version of the answer is to read a book. The following you may also find if you check Get-help > Documentation on LibreOffice.org:
Thank you for your helpful suggestions. I have downloaded the ODT version of the book. I will learn to use the auto-correct function.
The styles tool is in the right side panel.
If that panel does not show, it may be minimized or entirely disabled. To enable the side panel and open it to the “styles” tool, select menu item View - Styles.
The Styles tool has a small toolbar of its own on top. Below that you see a list of named styles available for use.
Now you need to create a new paragraph style, e.g. named “Performance”, and put your indent settings there.
- Make sure the leftmost icon on the toolbar is selected. That means you are working with paragraph styles.
- Right click on the active item and select New …. The style editor dialog opens.
- Select the Organiser tab
- Enter the name for your style (“Performance”, or some other descriptive name),
- Make sure the same name appears for Next style
- Select the Indents and spacing tab
- Enter desired indent size(s)
- OK
Now, when you need the indent to signify performance, double click the Performance entry in the styles list. To revert back to “normal”, double click the Text Body entry.
Chances are that you have other elements which disturb the reflowing of an epub book to adapt to various display sizes. You should definitely look into @Wanderer’s advice to learn how to create a well structured (and hence well behaved) text with Writer.
Thank you for your helpful suggestion. John Omaha
