Using the ‘min’ function, libreoffice calc prints the date value ‘03/18/1900’ instead of the correct ‘78’.

As explained I had trouble using the min function

The trouble is not with the min function. You somehow gave a time/date format to the cell. Format the cell back to “standard” or other purely numeric format.
