Ver 5 locks up on El Capitan

software opens but freezes. have to force quit. previously opened files need to be recovered and freeze again

[Edit:- added MacOSX, El-Capitan + lo-5 tag]

The original post (below) is accurate & may apply but is misleading, since Bug 92898 applies to LO/OO under El Capitan (thanks osnola). Note the following re this bug:

  • NeoOffice is reported to work more-or-less OK
    (LO + OO both afflicted)
  • 32-bit seems less afflicted than 64-bit
  • 4.x is as badly afflicted as 5.x
  • Calc is the main villain, though Writer and Impress are afflicted intermittently

One thing to check for:
A new security policy in El Capitan says:

“nobody writes to /usr, not even users with administrative privileges”

…so check for LO/OO code in that directory as a possible source of bugs.

(The following is the original post):

This looks like a classic for the Profile Fix™ (Restore a default profile):-

  1. Shutdown LO/OO + Quickstarter
  2. Find your user-profile
(note: 5.x profile is identical to the 4.x profile)
  3. Rename it
  4. Restart LO/OO

…and try again.

LO/OO is very prone to Profile Corruption. In the absence of an existing profile it is designed to re-create a new profile, and that neatly fixes many, many problems.

If this helps then please tick the answer (:heavy_check_mark:)
