Version 6.4.5.2 - laptop TAB Key not working

Gents

I have had to uninstall v6.5.4.2 from my laptop because the TAB key did not work in either Writer or Calc - I have not attempted the other components, I checked the help, but nothing was advised. I have had to go back to 6.4.4.2.

Setup on my laptop:

Linux Mint 20
Kernel - 5.7.8
RAM - 24 GBytes

I would like to upgrade, but I can’t because of this issue. Any assistance greatly received.

Thanks.

Linux Mint 20

Which package did you install (Mint repo, PPA or from TDF)? Got no problem here using openSUSE Leap 15.2, KDE/Plasma and LibreOffice 6.4.5.2 (directly from TDF - libreoffice.org).

Hi

I downloaded the tgx archive from the LibreOffice downloads page

If you are asking about LinuxMint, then I downloaded the ISO, burnt a USB, booted and did a full fresh install - I did not upgrade, I wiped the laptop HDD and did a fresh full install.

“not working” is an insufficient description. What does not work where when doing what, what behaviour is expected, and what happens instead?

“not working”

Okay, when I press the TAB key on my keyboard NOTHING HAPPENS. THE CURSOR DOES NOT MOVE ALSO ANY TABS WHICH I IN DOCUMENTS ARE GONE.

I have the answer I need, so you don’t need to give me the same answer back as previously given, if you actually read the responses you would not need to give such a dumb response.

Thanks for dumb and shouting at me.

Just to say that for me the Tab key works in both Calc and Writer 6.4.5, and existing tabs are not removed when loading documents. But I don’t use Mint.

Your key is fine. This is a bug that they put in 6.4.5.2. You cannot enter a tab character any more on an empty line that is visible. They also wipe out tab entries at beginning of line in old documents because tab stop is invisible and useless now!

Hi, that is exactly what is happening.

I am very unhappy at this, I have used LibreOffice since it started and have not had an issues, this is the first issue I have experienced.

If it is a known bug, then hopefully they will fix it soon, I am not movng from LibreOffice but I want the latest version…

This is a bug

And the bug report is which?

Fwiw, this seems to be tdf#134548 and duplicates.

Can you clarify “bug they put in.” Is this a bug that will be corrected in the next release? Or something they put in deliberately that will remain? I, too, am finding the inability to indent extremely annoying.

Hi

Hopefully its not a deliberate “feature” and it is an accidental bug. Pity the testing did not pick it up. This is something Microsoft would do, release it onto the world before they tested it, and get the public to test it for them.

LibreOffice is not MS, it is miles better. As I said previously, if this is deliberate then its time to say Goodbye to LibreOffice or I will remain with the version that the tab works.

Click the bug’s link? Read the bug? Find it’s fixed?

I had the same problem in this 6.4.5.2 version. I’ll wait Ubuntu Software upgrade to the new version where the bug is fixed.

Until fixed, I am using [Ctrl+TAB] and that seems to be working

Still a problem with latest 6.4.6 and 7.0.0.3 versions. However, Tabs WORK when I create a New Document. They just stopped working today in legacy documents. My conclusion is the problem is a change in document compatibility.

Everyone

Thanks for the advise, but I have removed 6.4.4.2 and upgraded to 7.0.0.3, the TAB works as does everything else.
