Version 6 to Version 7 (the formatting is off)

I have a client running LO on Mojave vers 6.2.6.2. They purchased a Mac mini, migrated all data, and installed LO ver 7.4.2.3
Anytime they open any LO writer doc in the new LO, the formatting is off.
I have compared both vers 6 and 7 to each other. All settings are the same. Went through everything single jot and tittle.
I think it’s either something in the coding or some invisible aspect.
They have hundreds of ODT files and they don’t want to have to re-create/repair every one.
Any ideas?

No guess without at least a (very) small sample file. Even if documents are heavily direct formatted nothing should change. They perhaps forgot to transfer their default template.

What, if you create a new document? Is “the formatting then on” ? Whatever that would mean anyway… Because, if the program is not working correctly it is not surprising to have the same behaviour on old files.
.
Another point to think of: If they use special fonts, theese are installed in the OS, not in LibreOffice. You’d have to migrate them. (But typically more often a problem on Linux).

Hello @dpstlto:
What do you mean with

That you can’t change the formatting (all options are grayed out)? That you only see plain text with no formatting (font name and size, line spacing, indents, etc.)?
If you were running on Windows, I would have said that your files were saved as .doc(x) and that the file association was changed from LibreOffice to another simple word processor (but there you still can see different fonts). Also I don’t think that Mac use Skia. So, no clue.

and a screenshot, including formatting marks (Ctrl+F10), title bar, status bar, and rulers). Thanks.
See my sample below.

You may test also with version 7.3.7.
