Version 7.0.3 announced, while version 7.0.4 available

Why, my LibreOffice installation notifies me about latest available version being 7.0.3, but the actual website states it has 7.0.4 as the latest version?

I’m wondering why this inconsistence takes place? or am I getting something wrong?

however, when I manually go onto the LO download site, I see 7.0.4 as a less-tested, and 6.4.7 as a longer-tested versions?

N. B.: it would have been great if you’d name LTS versions with “LTS” appendix, not to make users read metainformation about each download, and guess, whether it’s a LTS or not.

We are users of LibreOffice just like you. So if we could, you could as well. In other words: This is the wrong place to address such issue.

If LTS translates to Long Term Support, then such naming would be incorrect. There is no such thing (see Introduction to Release Plan). "Tested longer* is just due to the fact that it has been released earlier and that it has some more bug fix releases.

I’m not sure I understand the first part of your comment. What does your bold pronouns stand for? what is if we could, you could as well? could - what? if you can help - just help; otherwise, irrelevant aggression should not take place here. Question is quite clear and answer could have also been clear.

It is no aggression at all but trying to clarify, that you don’t talk to developers or any LibreOffice/TDF officials but to users of LibreOffice. Now you state “it would have been great if you’d name LTS versions with “LTS” appendix”. So I take that you and tell shortly "If we, the readers of your post, could fulfill that request (i.e. adding “LTS” to the name of the software), then you (@Giorgi ) could fulfill this request as well, since we all together (we + you) do not differentiate in power to achieve that goal. In other words: We can’t do that the same way you can’t do that.

Your question is clear and my comment didn’t contradict, but your request (under N.B.:) is incorrectly addressed. If you want that to happen, you may want to file an enhancement request here. Finally I did not answer, but comment, for that reason.

So, this Q/A forum is not reviewed by developers of LO? well… I thought it was, to be honest.

@cloph might have an idea, since it’s a month since 7.0.4 was released, and the normal delay looks overdue.

That there is a notification is what really matters, the version string is informational, see more verbose answer as a answer…

It was a simple typo when updating the server-side part of the update-check. While the hash of the new release was updated properly, the version string was not. So when a still version (i.e. 6.x) did the update-check, it prompted that there would be an update available for 7.0.3 still, while if you did the same with a 7.0 version, you’d get the proper 7.0.4

There branches are handled separately, because there is no cross-update from still to fresh versions while the branches are still active (so 6.x users didn’t get prompts in the update check when 7.0.0, 7.0.1 were released for example)

Giorgi, thank you for your question & analysis. I had the same experience with my current version This has been going on for weeks for me. I want to keep up-to-date with a tried-and-true version, NOT power–user-version. So, which version should I update to if any? Pardon my newbie lack of understanding. The answer to my question is not clear to me from the other poster’s discusion of “version string” etc. Thank you.

Change your update check frequency to a shorter interval, Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Online Update

What LTS? See Release plan. Or did you misread the statement that says LO partners can offer long term support for their supported versions?

Thanks… it’s set on “every week”, so, I don’t think it’s because of that… probably I didn’t update it when this notification first appeared… and now it just goes to the newer website. Yet, still… this is not the best customer experience… seems like notification system isn’t synced with real-time versions… and this can (and better to) be improved. Why “check for update” cannot be retrieving the up to date version available of update website, where it exactly leads you, if you click “update”? don’t you find this as a “can be improved” feature? I do.

It notifies me that an update is available and it will remind me again some time later. That is sufficient for me. Unlike you, I like to read the release notes to see if I need the update or whether I should wait a bit.
