Want to have a document with at least 2 veiws which show subsets of the entire document

I’m not sure the terminology to use but my searches have turned up empty.

I’d like to create a writer document, where I can view it in at least 2 ways. Right now I have a bulleted list and I’d like view one to be only the top level and view two the entire document.

Think of having one software document where the menu instructions are available in all views but the installation instructions vary with the OS.

Yes, I know it is not clear. I don’t know the terminology used for this.

I want to be able to print the different views.

No, I could use Window->New Window to get 2 windows to the document.

Maybe, would the printed document no show the collapsed sections?

Yes! I think that it! A universal document where what is displayed or printed depends on some value.

For my software document example, Debian would get one value, other OSes different values.

(Thank you for telling me how to update/edit my question. I did not know how to do that so would have just replied to you.

OS currently Ubuntu 18.04, Libreville Version: 7.6.7.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 60(Build:2)
CPU threads: 6; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Ubuntu package version: 4:7.6.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.1~lo1

Moving to Linux Mint 22.1 And LibreOffice 24.2.7.2

Your request is not very clear.

  • Do you want to have two windows on your document, showing it at different locations?
  • Do you want to have a “dynamic” hierarchical document where you can expand or collapse the hierarchy to see more or less details?
  • Simpler, do you want to write a “universal” document where the actual displayed version is selected according to the value of “switches”?

Please update = edit your question, this is better than adding a comment, forcing contributors to scroll to grab full context. Click first on icon below your post, then on the “pencil” icon to enter edit mode.

Don’t forget to mention OS name, LO version and save format.
