Has anyone found a simple way to place a watermark on a Writer 5 document? I wish to add “DRAFT” to a document I am working on.

You can use a text box (Insert
-Text Box
) anchored to a header/footer of the page style that needs watermark. The box can be made auto-sized to content, font, size and color selected, and box rotated as required, positioned on the text body, and arranged to background. You may use also other objects for that, like e.g. fontwork. Also, page background could be useful if you have a graphic to place as watermark.
Note that after you arrange an object to background, you may need to use Drawing toolbar’s Select
tool and drag a selection frame around the object to select it.
UPDATE 2017-07-27: (Upcoming) 5.4 includes a dedicated tool for Custom Watermark inserting (textual only) by Szymon Kłos, Collabora (see release notes and blog post).
Ctrl
click
can also be used to select a background object.
Thanks! Great to know!
-
Search Help with watermark. It tells you how to use an image “wrapped in background” as the watermark. View > Toolbars > Picture …, and select the image allows you to set the transparency to fade the image.
-
Alternatively Format > Page > Background …, and choose an image of the watermark as the page background.
In both cases all text overtypes the background image.
- If you are printing the document many printers can add a watermark when the document is printed.
If this helps then please tick the answer and/or show you like it with an uptick.
Here’s how you can add a transparent bookmark in LibreOffice Writer.
