What determines language on Calc status bar

The Calc status bar displays what appears to be the language that was selected at Options > Language Settings > Languages. Is that correct? If not, what language does it show?

I am asking because it would usually be obvious to the user which language was selected as the default. It seems that it would be more useful to show the language that is set with either formatting or styles.

The status bar displays what language is used by the document.
Creating new files will use the user configuration options by default.
The user could open a document created with other language settings.
A user can change the setting for a document after it has been created.
Either way the status bar will reflect the setting in the open document.
