What is the purpose of the Eliminate Points tool in the Edit Points toolbar?

I’ve tried reading what is written about the Eliminate Points tool in both the LibreOffice Draw Guide and the Help files, but I still can’t understand its purpose. Does Eliminate Points do anything that Delete Points can’t do?

The Eliminate Points Icon is the last icon at the right in the Edit Points toolbar, just to the right of the Symmetric Transition icon.

Both the LibreOffice Draw Guide 7.4 and the LibreOffice 7.4 Help files refer to it but I don’t understand its purpose since Delete Points seems to do the same thing.

It seems much easier just to select the point and click the Delete key on the keyboard.

What do you mean by that? The image shown in the linked web page (“Hidden Features in Draw”) depicts the “Split Curve” icon.

Today, a request was made to eliminate the Eliminate Points tool [1].
One day the feature may be gone for good, which begs the question:
Will anyone be sorry then?

You are right. Also, if you use the same interpretation of the icon for Split Curve then the icon for Eliminate Points should be Connect.
