I see in the About dialog there’s a UI render report string. What is it?
I am wondering because UI is dead slow on MacOS, and maybe there’s an option to change the render to make it faster.

That is related to whether or not you have enabled OpenGL.
If OpenGL is enabled that will read: UI render: GL
The OpenGL setting is here:
Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View
At the top right of that dialog you will see a checkbox for Use OpenGL for all rendering
You should find that yours is disabled.
A lot people have problems with OpenGL enabled so this lets a reviewer/helper/troubleshooter know if it is enabled.
If this answered your question please check the checkmark at left.
.
Thanks. Unfortunately even with GL enabled scrolling sucks the same as before
There is a scrolling setting specific to Writer.
With Writer open go to:
Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > View
Over on the right you will see a checkbox for Smooth Scroll.
Does changing that help?
Thanks but unfortunately not, LO is still very slow at scrolling on MacOS. A friend of mine told me the culprit could have been the high resolution of the retina display, and indeed on some lowres external monitor LO runs faster
