When dragging cells, there is no border

Hello, I asked this question a thousand years ago, but I forgot to keep up with it and never got a fix, so I’m making a new post about it.

When dragging cells, there is no border

In LibreOffice 5, when you would highlight an area of cells and drag them, there would be a border around where you were dragging them to.

In LibreOffice 6, this changed. Often times when I drag a collection of cells, I can’t tell where they’re actually going to land.

Is this a feature or a bug, and can I make it work the old (better) way? I will attach images to explain what I mean. I am on macOS Catalina.

One person suggested “modifying Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice/View/OpenGL status.” I could find this option using the path they suggested, but I did find a “Use OpenGL for all rendering” option in LibreOffice > Preferences > Libreoffice > View. It was unchecked. I checked it and that did not fix the problem.

Dragging cells in Libreoffice 5.x

Dragging cells in Libreoffice 6.x

Fwiw, I still get the drop target frame in all 6.x versions on Linux.

I’m pretty sure it works fine on my Windows PC at home as well, although I can’t say for sure off the top of my head. I’m pretty sure my Libreoffice at home is 6.x but it might not be.

But it doesn’t work for any of the Macs at my work building, which are anywhere between Sierra to Catalina.

Confirmed on my macOS test system (Catalina) and working on my Linux / Windows systems. The only indicator on macOS is a small black square which marks the new position of the cell, where the dragging started. Thus a workaround is: Start dragging in the upper left cell and the black square will indicate the upper left corner of the new position.

Yeah, I’ve been aware of that “workaround”, but I’d rather just have the border, so I’ve just put off upgrading from 5 to 6. I download new versions of 6 occasionally to see if they fixed the issue, but they never have, so I always just go back to 5.

If it’s something that could be fixed, that would be great. It’s a very strange bug / change, especially since it seems to be exclusive to Mac.

Please file a bug at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/ if there isn’t any yet.
