When referencing another sheet in calc the result is simply the formula

Whin I type an equal sign in a cell in Calc (LO and then click on the cell in another sheet (same workbook) the result is not what is in the referenced cell but rather the formula itself. (i.e. =Sheet1.K2) The format of both cells is text. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another/better way to do this?

I am running Linux (Kubuntu 1404), English

Yes don’t set up format cell as text.

It’s useful if you want enter numbers, dates or formulas as text, what this format forces, I think the main reason for this format.
