This week my class I being introduced to dbms. My instructor decided to use Base instead of MS Access, and we are using the Base guide for the assignment. The file we are supposed to be creating is Household Inventory. There are several references to http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications but the listed file “inventory.odb” cannot be found. There are two files, one with macros and one without, but neither file has anything to do with the tutorial. Instead, the files are related to the figures in the Base handbook.
For clarity, the term “inventory” does not appear at all in either the v3.5 or v4.0 versions of the Base Handbook. The reference in this question is to this text on p.48 of the Introduction chapter of the Base Guide v3.4:
The database we have been creating, Inventory.odb with added data, is available on line at:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications. You may wish to download it and compare what you have created with it.
This chapter is entirely about going through the process (tutorial) of creating this database. It does indeed appear that the file in question is not available. This AskLO thread provides links to several example databases, but does not the specific file indicated here.
I have raised bug fdo#70211 to get the issue addressed.
Thank you! I (and several others in my class) have repeatedly asked our instructor where to find the files for the tutorial, but he keeps directing us back to the link posted in my question. Unfortunately, the class has now moved on to another topic, but if other instructors are going to be using the Base Guide as part of their instruction, the link really needs to be in place.
