I only see a new elements menu when I insert a formula in the Writer text. This menu is absolutely unpractical. For me it takes triple time compared to classical elements menu.

LO-5 is from LibreOffice Fresh & as such may be buggy. You need to get used to using Bugzilla (or the Bug Assistant) (or a feature request).
One alternative is to use LibreOffice Still (more stable, less exciting).
