While saving a document, if I copy/paste (or cut/paste) a folder within the list of folders that appears, the entire Libre Office program freezes, I have to close the program with the Task Manager, and I lose any unsaved document. Is there a way around this?

Also, my software used to keep a backup copy of any unsaved file during a crash or a freeze, but some “unsollicited visitor” seems to have changed this. How can I make sure that the software doesn’t save only empty templates of unsaved files?

If program freezes can’t be avoided in this stage of development of the software, at least I would recover any unsaved file…

Thank you.

N.B.: By the way, the path “Tools - Options” doesn’t exist in my version of Libre Office Writer (6.4), contrary to what is described at Saving Documents Automatically

Welcome!
I hope you understand that the folder manipulations you described are performed not by Writer, but by your operating system? It is the OS that is responsible for what is stored on the computer’s hard drive. Therefore, do not be surprised that most of those who try to solve your problem will first of all ask, “What operating system do you have?”
Each new version of an office suite usually contains bug fixes. Perhaps installing the current version instead of the existing 6.4 will immediately solve the problem?

Judging from that, I assume the OS is macOS where it’s Application Preferences → LibreOffice or some such, as seems to be expected there.

Hello!

I use Windows 10 as an operating system,

but I didn’t have this problem when I used to use MS Word with (an older version of) that OS,

which is why I strongly suspect Libre Office to cause this freeze.

Copying a folder while saving a file is obviously asking too much out of the less sophisticated Libre Office program,

but I wanted to know

a) if there was a way to UNFREEZE (debug…) the program and

b) how can I re-establish the Autosave function, since Tools-Options doesn’t exist in the Libre Office drop-down menu.

I’ve had this problem for quite some time,

no matter what version of Libre Office I used,

so I very much doubt that updating it will solve the problem,

but who knows…

I suppose that you are using a version of the Tabbed Toolbars instead of the Standard Toolbar. Our tips mostly work with the Standard Toolbar. No way to list all of the possible positions of a specific function in a single answer.

Always, the paths refer to the main menu (Menubar). If you have the Tabbed interface, you can toggle visibility of the menu by clicking the menubar icon at the left of the toolbar.
MenubarTabbed
For the Grouped Bar interface it is in the sub-menu at the right
MenubarGroupedBar

BTW Cutting a folder that a program is currently writing to a file inside, is expected to cause problems.

Yes, you can expect better integration, if OS and Application are from the same company, and MS is known for internal “shortcuts”. But freezing is often just two programs waiting forever on each other. Difficult to analyze.

If LibreOffice really is frozen you can not do much. (You can compile your own version and run inside the development system with active debugger… Not for regular users.)

But in some recent cases I could not save via explorer (recognizable by not loading some icons) where I could switch to LibreOffice dialogues and save with them. (Also all saving through macros etc was possible, only MS-explorer was blocked.) Error vanished sometime later. I guess Windows update…

I have no idea what this “tabbed toolbar/interface” is all about. I use the application as I downloaded it from the official Libre Office website.

In any case, it’s not a matter of toolbar, it’s related to the drop-down menu at the very top of the screen: you can’t change that, at least in Writer!

So, to summarize:
a) No debugging for non-programmers;

b) Better use OS of same company as that of the application.

Thank you all for your time and kindness!

Please upload a screenshot image about the user interface of your LO.

The Menu and the toolbars are customizable. Maybe you switched off something accidentally. And the main Menu will not be appeared in some cases (when you choose some kind of the Tabbed toolbar)
