Why am I struggling to save new documents?

When I try to “save as” (these can be anything - pictures from the internet, or even new LibreOffice documents or presentations) the programme becomes unresponsive, and the source or programme where I want to save FROM is closed (again, this can be Chrome, Thunderbird or a word document).

My OS is Windows 8. Could that be the problem?

I am struggling a bit to understand what you are trying to accomplish and how you do it. Could you list the steps you take? Do you copy text or images from a browser, paste them into Writer and then try to save the document?
