Why can I not open downnload zipped files from a reputable music publisher ??

LibreOffice keeps telling me that the files are corript and cannot be opened or repaired. I have spoken with the publisher, who says that they have had no problems sending the same files to other people, so I can only conclude that the problem has something to do with LibreOffice. Any advice or help would be appreciated, as this is proving to be extremely annoying & frustrating…

Why do you want to open them with LibreOffice?? Would it not be better to open the files with an unzipping utility??

Your conclusion is wrong - Read this about the nature of ZIP files.

Regarding your answer:

The zipped files are saved to LibreOffice,

It was you who saved it to a place which might be reserved for LibreOffice files. This question is not related to LibreOffice at all. LibreOffice isn’t a music player, so why do you try to open a zip file from a reputable music publisher using LibreOffice?

Use File Explorer (if you are on Windows), Right click on the filename and Extract

Asking this question here is really proving to be extremely annoying & frustrating…

What are those files meant to contain?

  • Recorded musical performance?
  • Computer generated music files for mixing (e.g. audio samples) or backup/rehearsal support (e.g. MIDI files)?
  • Printed scores?
  • Teaching material (music theory)?
  • Something else?

Were they offered from the publisher as zip files, or did you expect document files, meant to be opened in e.g. Writer?

Thank you for all your replies - I’m sorry if I’m not at that the same level of IT knowledge /experience as most of you & was unable to clearly & accurately articulate my specific problem.

That is not a problem.

The issue is that your problem does not immediately look like it is connected to LibreOffice, which is the scope of this help site. My questions above tries to determine whether it might still be relevant, or whether we can advise you on a different source for help.

Do you still need assistance?

The zipped files are saved to LibreOffice, so I’ve just tried opening them. I’ve never come across / used zip files before, so do I need a specific unzipping utility (whatever that is ?).

This is not an answer to the question you asked.

I hope you have read all the comments above.

Nothing is “saved to LibreOffice” although your Operating System might have offered LibreOffice as a candidate for using the file when you attempted to open it. You didn’t say which operating system you are using, but if it is Windows you might want to read this. There are many other ways to unzip or uncompress a zipped (compressed) file, and I use several of these myself. I suggest you first unzip the file you obtained and then decide what you want to do with the contents. If there are text files included, LibreOffice Writer can be used to edit them.
