Why can't I update options or styles in LibreOffice 3.6.4.3 on Kubuntu 12.10?

I’m using Kubuntu 12.10 (current) and LibreOffice 3.6.4.3 from the ppa. I cannot change anything in options - there are no fields to make entries in. Also, if modify a style it will not hold across sessions. I deleted my 3/user folder and created a new one. No change.

@RJA By the ppa, do you mean from LibO or the one that comes pre-installed with Kubuntu?
