Why does a dash show an error in one doc but not in another?

I type in a date range in a doc and it is fine then in another it shows that there is an error?
The text is this {1944 - 1988}, there is no consistency to when it happens. I need to set a box or deselect a box somewhere but I have no clue where.

Thank you
Tom {Tomd}

Neither do we. First give us an idea of your environment: OS name, exact LO version (see Help>About LO) and save format. Then describe which “error” is reported, spellcheck? What is the difference between both documents? If possible attach a reduced version (1 page each) of these so that we can reproduce the “rror” and difference.

Sorry I forgot to add that,

I am a Mac user with macOS Sequoia 15.6.1 and a LibreOffice Version 25.8.1.1 (AARCH64)

I went back to the doc’c that had the issue and I can not find the problem. I do know it is self inflected but I fixed the problem. Now the problem is I have no clue what I did???

I found one

I an not sure how to attach one of my docs yet, but this is the subject matter.

10A 3¢  {US cent} George Washington {1732 - 1799}, Type 2; Definitive issue {1851 - 1857}
63   1¢  {US cent} Benjamin Franklin {1706 - 1790}; Definitive issue {1861 - 1862}
65    3¢  {US cent} George Washington {1732 - 1799}; Definitive issue {1861 - 1862}

The space, -, and the other space has a blue wavy line under it.

Blue wavy line is a warning by grammar checker.

IMHO, this flags a faulty usage of either spaces or “ordinary” hyphen in an interval designation. According to most typography manuals, bounds in an interval are separated by a U+2013 EN DASH, optionally with thin spaces around. U+002d HYPHEN-MINUS is reserved as a connector for compound words.

The blue wavy line is only a warning. If you find it disturbing, you can disable grammar checking in Tools>Options (Preferences menu under MacOS), Languages & Locales>Writing Aids where there is an Options item Check grammar as you type.

There also could be a dedicated Available Language Modules grammar checker. I can’t tell because there is none under Linux.

Thank You that was it. I knew it was a box some where that needed to be checked or unchecked
