Why does Libreoffice use 60% of the CPU (in Activity Monitor, Mackbook Pro) and slows things down when Pages Writer uses only 2-3% ...?

I had my laptop fan continually running over 4000rpm, via 3rd party fan controller, so I looked into the resouces usage to find the CPU constantly above 60%. SO I closed Libreoffice and used Pages instead and monitored it for a day to find the CPU never goes over 6% and usually hovers around 2% with the Brave browser running with many tabs open.

Is the software hogging the CPU or is the Mac system software reacting against Libreoffice?
