Why does the fill function in Calc work differently than in Excel?

I’m not sure this is the right place to ask this, but I’m curious to understand what is the developers’ rationale behind associating the copy by dragging the cell handle to a special key in order NOT to have a series, instead of just mimicking Excel behaviour - which is no special key for copy, and special key for series - thus confusing switchers: I really don’t see any good reason to do that, since copying is no doubt a much more common task than making series, so usability-wise it should be associated with the least cumbersome procedure = no special key needed.

Is there any tweak to customize Calc to have it imitate the standard Excel behaviour on this one?

I’m not sure why the behavior of LO is different from that of Excel, but I have a good suggestion on how to figure out why: File a request to change the behavior to match Excel.

If the feature is approved, then the two suites will be in harmony. If the feature is not approved, then you can at least ask for an answer as to why the behavior is different. (Hopefully the answer will be better than “because we’ve always done it that way” )
