There are a couple of responses to this.
- From a LibO developer’s standpoint, the bottom line is that if LibO crashes
or hangs, then LibO has a bug. End of discussion. From this standpoint,
you have found a bug. Please, if you have a few minutes, see if it has
been reported already, and if
not, do so. - In the shorter term, LibreOffice should support AVI files, but this is
not a guarantee. Specifically, if the AVI file is corrupt, it may be
triggering the aforementioned bug. Also, note that AVI is not a specific
movie format, just a container format;
this means that while a program reading the AVI may understand that a
certain section of the file is supposed to be a movie, it may not know how
to actually decipher that section.
In light of point two, you may be able to find out more info about what exactly is going wrong (via Google, via this forum, etc.) if you keep in mind both which version of LibO you have (e.g. Win7 + LibO 3.5.2) and the particulars of the AVI file (what codecs are used internally, size, etc.).
