I’m not undestarnd why not uses faenza icon theme as icon theme option for libreoffice, or better as icon theme default. If libreoffice team are trying for awesome software, the option of a good icon theme as faenza libreoffice is a good option.

I can’t directly answer your question as to why this icon set is not used as the default for LO. That is for the developers to consider. Here are some things I noticed however regarding the licensing:
COPYING file within the download confirms this.copyright file in the debian sub-directory is empty (0kB).My understanding of these licenses is rudimentary to say the least. GPLv3 and LGPLv3 would appear to be compatible, at least in the LGPLv3 to GPLv3 direction, but not the other way. MPL (and possibly LGPLv3+) licensing would likely need to be obtained from the original author of the original Faenza Gnome icon theme. MPL licensing would also likely need to be obtained from the author of the modified Faenza LO derivative icon theme.
Yes. With good reason. If you download the two sets and compare like-for-like icons you soon realise they are, for the most part, the same graphics / designs. The faenza-for-LO version has more colour icons, while the flat set have more monochrome. At this point working out who copied what is likely to be pointless. I just hope Issa does a good job on the flat icon set.

There is now a Design Whiteboard for a flat icon set, which is effectively identical to the Faenza icon set mentioned in the question. A link to the related mailing list discussion is available on the wiki page.
Don’t have an answer… Interesting icons, but I would not set black & white icons as default icons. I think LibreOffice should have the icons specific to the operating system it is run on. This is in my humble opinion the only “professional” criteria. This would eliminate user’s confusion what are the actions taken when clicked on icons.
There should in my humble opinion be other operating system specifics integrated into LibreOffice like File | Exit (Windows OK) on Linux distributions should be File | Quit. Tools | Options should be moved to Edit | Preferences. Firefox does nice job of this kind of adoption to make it more natural to the native users of operating system.
I once had a look at the various sets of LibO icons and found that a set created out to the existing one would be quite nice and easy to understand. However, I never had the time to really create my own preferred set.
It would already be helpful to have the possibility to easily select from the various LibO icon sets.
Changing icons is already possible: Tools | Options | LibreOffice | View | Icon size and style. In my humble opinion users would like to have many different styles, because non of them is really good. I think using operating system default icons would be the best way to go. But I think theres icosn could be right protected.

@froz - in the menu you indicated one can replace a complete set by another complete set. I tried several of these sets and came to the conclusion that a mixture of icons from 2 - 3 sets would suit me the very best. If such a selection could be made possible, it would be very good.
