Wildcard support in the File Open name box in

The documentation says: “If you want, you can use wildcards in the File name box to filter the list of files that is displayed.” - this used to work fine in older versions of LO, but I get only “does not exist” error messages in

Is this a bug, or is there some config option to re-enable this feature?

I am using Fedora 20 Linux on x86_64: libreoffice-core-

Still works perfectly under Windows XP (with LO and newer) when using the Windows dialogs. Typing *.od* shows all Open Documents and typing *.doc* shows all MS Word documents…

The bug does occur in the 4.2 branch when using the LibreOffice dialogs (Tools > Options > LibreOffice > General > Open/Save dialogs > Use LibreOffice dialogs) which is not the default under Windows. I can confirm that it works as expected in the 4.1 branch so this is a regression.

Bug reported as fdo#76778

This is Fedora 20 Linux on x86_64:
libreoffice-core- etc.

@wd, can you try the latest RC (http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/?type=deb-x86_64&version=4.2.3&lang=en-US)? If the bug still occurs you should report this regression at https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/

@oweng and @wd, just confirmed this is a regression in the 4.2 branch under Windows as well when using the LibreOffice dialogs. I’m modifying my answer accordingly.

@Pedro1, thanks. It appears to be related to certain desktop environment / window managers. As my answer indicated, the lighter weight versions I use to not appear to support this at all. I certainly do not ever recall seeing it.

In case this is really dependent on the WM: I’m running fvwm2

I can confirm that this bug also occurrs in version running on PCLOS 2014. I had to upgrade because text search function stopped working on my earlier version.

Bug 76778 - Wildcard support in the File Open dialog is broken

(LibreOffice 4.2.4 / 4.3.0)

I can confirm that neither Debian 7 + LXDE using v4.1.4.2 or Crunchbang 11 + Openbox using v4.2.2.1 (both website versions) offer wildcard support for the File Open dialog. The File name field only appears when the Tools > Options… > LibreOffice > General > Open/Save-dialogs section > “Use Libreoffice dialogs” option is checked. Regardless of whether the full path and wildcarded filename or just the filename is entered, the displayed list of files is unaffected.

Bugs fdo#46221 and fdo#61557 are related to getting this dialog simplified / cleaned-up however there is no report that I can find relating to wildcard support. Do you know in which prior version it was working?

EDIT: I have also tested Crunchbang 11 + Openbox using v3.5.7.2 (website version) and again there does not appear to be any wildcard support for this dialog. It is possible the help page information is Windows-specific, and that it is the documentation that requires amending.

I have a system where I’m still running (also Fedora 20, i. e. libreoffice-core- etc.), and there it is still working fine.

Thanks for confirming. It sounds like it may be related to the desktop environment / window manager in use.
