WIN 10 End of support and forthcoming LO bugfixes

Hi Gurus,
I have an environment where I use a modern WIN 11 PC to run an “obsolete” version of LO

Version: 7.5.9.2 (x86) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: cdeefe45c17511d326101eed8008ac4092f278a9
CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 26100; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-GB (en_GB); UI: en-GB
Calc: threaded
Trust me, it’s WIN11 with build 26100

I am forced down this path because too many outstanding bugs prevent me from upgrading to a later version.

In the spirit of cooperation I also run two Win10 boxes;

Version: 25.8.1.1 (X86_64)
Build ID: 54047653041915e595ad4e45cccea684809c77b5
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10 X86_64 (build 19045); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: sv-SE (en_SE); UI: en-GB
Calc: threaded

Upon which I try to help out by testing fixes without risk to my “obsolete” working environment.

As we’re all aware, support for WIN10 ends in two weeks so presumably LO will stop/phase out support for WIN 10 in future bug fixes.

This implies I can no longer test fixes in the forlorn hope that one of them may permit me to update to a later version in the WIN 11 environment.

Will I even be able to install the upgrades on a WIN10 box?

Any guidance will be appreciated,

Thanks

For now, there is no plan to drop support for Windows 10.

In version 25.8 (Aug 2025), we finally dropped support for Windows 7 (and 8); and that was not (directly) because MS ended their support, but because components used in LibreOffice (e.g., Python) ended their support - which made us in a situation, where any future security issue in those components would either be left unfixed in LibreOffice, or we would have to maintain the fixes ourselves (without having required expertise in that).

The previous drop of Windows versions support was in version 6.0 (Feb 2018); and that was driven by lack of specific features in Windows XP, that actively prevented us from making our multithreading more robust.

You may see the pattern. We don’t directly follow OS vendor’s support cycle - rather, we drop support when there is a reason that directly affects LibreOffice project itself.

(And yes, Windows 11 actually has internal version number 10.0.2…)

Thanks Mike.
Who’d have guessed - MS misleading customers with out of sync version numbers🤷‍♂️
