Windows 11 - LibreOffice doesn't start

Hi,

I just installed LibreOffice v25.2.2. Installation went fine, but when I try to start the application, nothing happens. I tried repairing the installation, uninstall/reinstall, nothing helps.

The Application Log reports this:

Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.3775
Hardware: VMWare Workstation 17.5. CPU: Intel i7-4790K 4 GHz 8 cores, 16 GB RAM

I’ve tried it on Windows 10 x64 with the same (virtual) hardware, and here, LibreOffice runs just fine.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Update: I uninstalled v25.2.2 and installed v24.8.6, and the old version works.
I then updated to v25.2.2, and the new version still doesn’t work.

Hi, @Villeroy, and thank you for your reply.
Starting LibreOffice in safe mode does indeed work, so now I have at least gotten one step further!
But I still hope that somebody can help me with a proper solution.

Read the tread again: It suggests also to reset your profile…

I cannot read the crash message. If LibreOffice works in Safe Mode then it might be a graphics issue or a user profile issue.

The first is easiest, start LibreOffice in Safe mode. When you get to the dialogue, under Configure, tick the box Disable hardware acceleration (OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulkan). Click the button Apply Changes and Restart.

If LibreOffice opens OK then don’t do any work but click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View and tick the box Force Skia software rendering. Allow LibreOffice to restart and carry on as normal.

If the above doesn’t work then it is probably a user profile issue then choose one of the methods listed in the linked page, LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki. I prefer the manual method of closing LibreOffice, renaming the user folder to something like user2025-04-22. Start LibreOffice to let it build a new profile, close LibreOffice and then drag over any sub-folders that you have added to and want to keep using.

Hi, @EarnestAl, and thank you for your reply.

Disabling HW acceleration and forcing Skia software rendering did the trick, I can use LibreOffice now!

Thanks!
