Windows 8.1 does not allow install of LibreOffice 4.1.5 or 4.2.2

Hi there,
caught a nasty trojan inside one of Googles Extensions for the Chrome Navigator. Had LibreOffice (4.1.5 Spanish Version, 84-bit) installed and running perfectly. Could identify the troubling extension but not exterminate the annoing bastard.

Decided to clean up the machine completely Restore factory defaults (Win 8), all the way up to all the updates 'til Win 8.1, also with all it´s updates. The machine is a Samsung Notebook NP3050, Core i5, 6GB Ram, 500GB HD,

When it came to re-install LibreOffice, went to your site, downloaded version 4.1.5, Language Spanish with it’s Helpfile. Download O.K. But trying to install the package, Windows Smart Screen wouldn´t let me. First “unknown Editor” error, trying to override, cannot install this package.

Put Smart Screen on hold with practically the same result.

Downloaded vers. 4.2.2 with it’s Help, exactly the same result.

Now, a friend of mine went tru the same process, but on a Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite- AMD x64 x4 CPU, 4GB RAM and everything went fine.

Any ideas or suggestions what I’m doing wrong here? Wouldn’t like to go tru the whole process again, pretty stressy.

Never give out your email if it’s not necessary and here it certainly is just asking for trouble.

There’s no 84-bitness and also not a 64-bit LibO for Window$, just for Linux and OSX.

Well the Smart Screen “extension” is a browser plugin by Microsoft which checks for Viruses using the built in antivirus software Defender (by Microsoft).

You might have some possibilities:

• Turn off the defender
• open the protection mode (with network connection) when starting and load the file again (dunno if the SmartScreen-Filter is turned off there by default)
• using another web browser
• turn of (partially or fully) the smart screen filter by
• clicking [Alt] on the keyboard,
• Extras
• SmartScreen-Filter
• Turn off the SmartScreen-Filter…
• Hit enter after choosing to turn it off

Change browser altogether and disable Defender. Everyone knows IE is asking for trouble, Smart Screen is as useless, and Defender is as trustworthy regarding malware as a panda as a fortuneteller; trusting Micro$oft for security is same as removing locks from your house and putting on a banner saying don’t enter.

@rautamiekka it doesn’t matter if IE, SmartScreen-Filter or the Defender finds something or not: the general default configuration is that these feature are turned on and @PeteEB having problems in downloading (or better saying finishing the download) of LibreOffice. We should help users and if they do want to change their configuration we can give them relevant links or advises.
