With some character pairs, RTL | LTR setting dicates the dispaly of its mate

If you can suggest a better title, please do so.

Consider the following operations:

  1. FileNewText Document
Result: an empty document, with settings that an LTR speaking person would expect. Or so I think.
  2. Pressing the > key
Result: > is shown as the leftmost place in the uppermost line.
  3. Pressing the enter key
Result: the cursor is moved to the leftmost place of the line next to the uppermost line.
  4. FormatParagraph…
Result: a paragraph setting window is displayed.
  5. AlignmentProperties: Text direction: Right-to-left (RTL)OK
Result: the paragraph setting window is closed.
  6. Pressing the > key
Result: < is shown as the leftmost character in the second line.

And that is the issue I want to raise. In the next to the uppermost line, I expected to get the > character. Not the < character. There seem to be the same issue with other key pairs. Such as (, ), [, ]. And possibly others.
Are my exceptions not reasonable? Am I the only one having this issue?

And possibly with earlier versions, I don’t remember.

The word dicates at the subject of this tread should have been dictates. Can someone fix that?
A demonstration document is With some character pairs, RTL | LTR setting dictates the display of its mate.odt (8.9 KB).
Some more oddities that I noticed:

  1. If I am opening this document for the 1st time after a reboot of the machine, I do not see a cursor. And the keyboard is not responsive unless I click the mouse in the LibreOffice window. The keyboard is not responsive only as far as LibreOffice is concerned. It does seem to be fully functional for other applications.
  2. When I click the mouse somewhere in the 1st line other then at its left most position of the beginning of the line, I get the cursor immediately to the left of the > character. If I now issue a FormatParagraph…, a paragraph window setting is displayed. Within it, setting AlignmentProperties: Text direction: Right-to-left (RTL)OK makes the setting window to be closed AND the > character that was in that line turns into a < character (and the cursor position is changed as if it is ready for an Right-to-left (RTL) display, which is actually expected).
