How can I make two pages fit/shrink into one, four pages into three, etc., as in the WordPerfect “make fit” button??
LibreOffice does not have predetermined page objects, unlike MS Word and (presumably) WordPerfect. There is no way to tell LibreOffice, “I want to have this content over n pages”, because pages are just an abstraction that LibreOffice uses to reflow and lay out the formatted objects “in real time”, so to speak. Most importantly, this layout is done according to a page style.
That being said, it is certainly possible to improve the layout:
-
The first thing you might want to do
is change a few parameters in your
paragraph styles (assuming you do use
styles). What is the line height?
What is the amount of vertical space
between paragraphs? Are so-called
widows and orphaned lines treated in
a special way? -
The next step would be to remove any
empty paragraphs (created by entering
two consecutive carriage returns) and
instead separate the paragraphs with
the appropriate vertical white space
by modifying their styles. If you don’t want
any space between paragraphs, then the
first line of each should be indented. -
Modify the page style itself. Are
the margins as wide as you want them?
Are there headers and footers? What are
their dimensions? This should help control
the flow of text. -
If all else fails, use manual page breaks
to get more pages, or use a smaller font
size to get less pages (again, this should
be done by changing the paragraph styles
and not manually). -
Finally, from time to time, it is a good idea
to update the layout. To do that, go to:
Tools > Update > Update All. Often, this will
improve the efficiency of the layout and use
less pages.
Hope this helps!
