Writer and Calc no longer read files

Hi All,
Linux Mint 21.3; LibreOffice 7.3.7.2.
Recently Writer and Calc no longer open files when I run “libreoffice --writer” or "-calc ". They start with a display of an untitled file; then go dead until I get a message “LibreOffice 7.3 is not responding.You may choose to wait a short while for it to continue or force the application to quit entirely.”

However if I run “libreoffice”; then select the file from the “Recent Documents”; Writer and Calc will open the file, sometimes after delay.

Base works without a problem.

• First try it with resetting user profile. might be it is at .config/libreoffice/4 in your home directory. rename ‘4’ to ‘4old’. A new libreoffice profile will be created.

• Try to update LibreOffice to a newer version. Might be you are using the packages of Linux Mint. I would prefer to use the original downloaded from LibreOffice directly. You could see the difference in the BuildID:

I tried resetting user profile; it made no difference.
I’ve downloaded the recent libreoffice 28.3.2 deb and installed it, but can’t get it to run - it’s probably failing prerequisites. (Installing them looks like getting into dependency hell)
