Writer corrupting .docx files when set to default app (macos)

Hi,

As I’ve deleted word, textedit is the default app to open .docx files on my mac. When I simply right click and select open with > libreoffice, documents open perfectly fine. However, I’m lazy - when I select open with > other > libreoffice and then tick “always open with”, the file corrupts and I can no longer open the document at all (damaged and cannot be open popup). This is pretty frustrating as the damaged document is a revision summary sheet I spent a while making!

Does anybody know how to avoid this happening and have .docx files open as normal if libreoffice is set to the default program for files of this type, or will I have to settle for two clicks forever?

I’m running sonoma 14.6.1 (I know I need to update) if this helps.

Cheers

No clue for your real problem, but you could use .odt format instead of .docx. This avoids translation to LO and back to Word on every load/save.
.
For your problem: Can you share the “corrupted” file? I’m sure nobody programmed a “save differently when we are default handler on MacOS”, so the question is: What is happening or interfering there?
.
Are you using passwords/encryption in your files? And wich version of LibreOffice do you use?

Yeah, I’ve been converting everything from docx to odt in the meantime but it’s pretty time consuming when working through lots of resources.

I’ve emailed the document to myself and discovered it will open as normal on ms word for mobile so I think this may be a macos issue - will update tonight and see if it makes a difference.

I do not encrypt the files.
