Writer crashes under Accessibility Check

Writer 24.2.7.2 in Linux Mint 22.3 (as loaded with Mint).

Got a whopper this time. I opened a document, and, since I’m new to Writer, was poking around to see what things did. In the right side-bar were a bunch of options. When I hit the Accessibility Check icon, Writer froze (Not responding). I said I would wait to let it resolve its neuroses, and it did. Sort of, but not really.

At first I just closed and reopened, hoping that that would do the trick, but no.

Writer presented me with a ‘restore document’ choice. I said, Sure, why not, and it opened the thing, but froze momentarily again. When it finally settled down, there were two “Fix” buttons now present at the top of the right side bar, which was stuck in the Accessibility Check option. One, labeled “Document title is not set” (despite the title being displayed at the top of the screen) and the other labeled “Missing alternative or description text” showed a link titled “Picture 2”.

Hitting the ‘title’ Fix, let me name the document, but Writer went back into ‘not responding’ mode. When it came back from its catatonia, the ‘Document fix’ button was still there. So I tried the ‘missing alternative’ link. This took me to a chart I had posted, but without a caption. So I gave it one, but Writer froze again, then, when the “Fix…” button was still there, I hit it and was asked to give a description. I did that, too, which froze Writer again for a moment. When it resumed, the “Alternative” button was gone, but the “Document” button was still there. So I tried it again, renamed the document, again, and froze Writer again.

Long story short, in the end, all was well and after I closed Writer and reopened, was back in business, but perhaps there is a problem with the Accessibility Check module.

Please test with Menu>Help>Restart in Safe Mode.

I have. No joy.

Incidentally, I also just noticed that there is a new icon at the bottom of the page (a little man with a red x) labeled "Status Accessibility Check. This identifies 7160 issues found. Clicking on this also freezes Writer for a moment or two, but brings the right sidebar back to life, with many links shown. Clicking on those, all of which that I have seen so far, are labeled either “The text formatting conveys additional meaning” or “Avoid spaces to create space”. All those I have clicked have taken me to footnotes, and seem to highlight text formatting, such as italics, or the second space after a period that I use routinely.

This is weird. How do these constitute problems?
