Writer default template setting is cancelled by reboot

Setting a template to Default applies only during the session. On reboot there is no default set, the built-in default template, which can’t be changed, is used. How can I make the setting permanent? I’m sure I have not had this problem in the past, or if I have, there was a solution.

Version 7.5.7.1(X86_64)
Manjaro linux (Stable)

This is a fresh install.

How “fresh” is it? Did you also reinstall the OS? In case you only reinstalled LO, did you do it through your distribution package manager, i.e. it is the current “standard” version for your distro?
Where was your default template stored? Explicitly in one of your home sub-directories? Or did you let LO manage it in your user profile (which might have been reset depending on the type of install)?

Are you using a named account (login profile) or a guest account. On the systems I have tried, the guest account is reset to defaults with every new login.

Admittedly it’s been a while since I needed to employ the guest account, and I don’t know how Manjaro guest accounts work in this respect.

This is a fresh OS install a few weeks ago on a new hard drive, with standard packages.
I only have the one user. I don’t think Manjaro has a guest option, I’ve never seen one.
The template directory is:
/home/andy/.config/libreoffice/4/user/template/

Then if the hard drive was empty, there is no inheritance of previous user home directories. You should have backed up these user directories before installing. After the install you could have restored them.

If you still have the previous hard drive, you can salvage its contents.

  • either it is in a still working PC and you can turn it into a server, e.g. FTP, and copy over the network;
  • or you install the previous hard drive in an USB device to mount it just like you would an USB stick.

If the hard drive is no longer available or failing, there is no hope to recover your data.

I copied the data directories over, I don’t have a problem with data.
The software is all standard freshly installed.
My problem is that setting a template as default is lost on reboot.
I think on the old install I had edited the Template path to a directory under my user. I’ll try that, though I can’t see why it would help.

Adding my user level Template directory to the Templates User path has worked, my default now survives a reboot.
