The cursor jumps around
Sorry, but that is only one reason. And, please, what is your question?
Here are some suggestions for what seems to be a hardware problem. Turn on NumLock on your keyboard (if not then 2,4,6,8 become cursor movers), check your (translucent-sided HP) laser mouse isn’t picking up sunlight or other light, turn off your laptop trackpad when typing, are your arrow keys jammed with something? I’m picking that it’s mouse keys 2,4,6,8.
I can’t see the second problem in your “question”.
If Writer is so annoying, don’t use it and save us from your nonsense.
Sometimes when I attempt to click in any frame in writer the cursor will not enter the frame so I may type. A temporary transient workaround appears to be clicking on an image first in writer then selecting the frame you want.
This usually occurs when I scroll up with the mouse wheel from the bottom of a page but not sure if this is a requirement. Perhaps the cursor is obscured by foreground frames? Current mode of working involves entering carriage returns as an alternate way of inserting page break so can move frames without mouse later.
Even pressing F2 to “edit” the current cell doesn’t work in this sitation. If cannot see cursor on page I press F2 to attempt to make it visible. If it does not become visible I then click on an image and then either F2 again to locate the cursor, or click on a frame then F2 to start writing.
Not sure if this is a bug or incorrect usage. Will pay more attention to when working in my documents so please keep this question open.

Click a frame to select it, then press the enter key. You can now start typing.
Might this be the secret second reason not revealed by ACT I?
