Writer: Last used cursor position lost ... again. (7.4.6.2)

Just updated my LibreOffice to 7.4.6.2 and guess what? After a save, close, and re-open, the cursor position is at the beginning of the document, not where I last left off. I looked for solutions, and found some that apparently worked for version 6.4, but none of those solutions are successful in this version.

A solution that would fix this would be most highly appreciated.
Thanks.

edit to add: I uninstalled 7.4 and reinstalled 7.3 because in that version, I didn’t have this problem. And THAT didn’t fix it either.

Try:
Personal Data in LibreOffice

If it is a long document then probably Bug 140147 - Position of cursor not saved correctly (see comment 46 for bibisect)

You could add yourself to the CC list.

The indication from comment 46 implies 6.4.7.2 doesn’t suffer from this particular problem (although it might have other with similar effect)

Have you tried Shift+F5? It should take you to the last saved cursor position, even if no name is entered in Tools > Options > LibreOffice > User Data (except 140147, long documents around 500 pages I think).

I have done this. I began that way, as I have always done. The document opened at the last saved cursor position until I upgraded from 7.3 to 7.4.
I deleted all personal data and re-entered it. Same result. The cursor is at the beginning of the document.
I deleted all personal data and saved the document, closed it, opened it again and re-entered personal data. I made a change to the document and saved it. I closed it and re-opened it. Same result. The cursor is at the beginning of the document.
I deleted version 7.4, re-installed 7.3 and did everything I just described. Same result. The cursor is at the beginning of the document.

The document that is exhibiting this problem is just over 4 pages. I open other very long documents (novels) with mixed results.
As I explained in my original post (but perhaps not clearly enough), I tried all these solutions, after finding many posts online in various forums that suggest the same solutions. See my response to Hrbrgr, above.
Shift+F5 does absolutely nothing, either in the 4-page document or the 475 page document.
I haven’t seen any suggestions for a fix of this issue for versions newer than 7.1.
I haven’t experienced this issue in years.
I am using a computer (Dell Precision 3560) that I purchased in February, 2021, in which I immediately installed LO. I still have .msi files dating back to 7.2.1, but nothing older. Operating system Win10Pro.
Until yesterday, I have had few, if any, problems with LO, and certainly none that I couldn’t either live with or for which I found solutions.
I am unclear what you mean by “the CC list.”

If the Function keys are used for other effects by default, such as volume, then you need to press Shift+Fn+F5. This takes you to cursor position of last save except for very long documents, tested in 6.4.7.2, 7.3.7.2 and 7.5.1.2.

From Bug report, comment 46:

This first started happening since the following commit in 7.1: ...
The commit was later reverted both in 7.2 and 7.1, that's when the bug seemed fixed: ...
Then the revert was reverted (ie. the commit was back in again) in 7.4 and 7.3:

Earnest,
Thank you for trying to help with my issue. I really do wish your suggestions would resolve the problem, however.

Yes, I know this. And I repeat, it does nothing. The cursor just sits there.

And again, I repeat, I did NOT experience this problem while using ANY of the versions from 7.1.1 through and including 7.3.7. … But it now, after having deleted 7.4.6.2 (do I understand you correctly that the cursor issue should not be a problem in 7.4?) and reinstalling 7.3.7.2, I am still experiencing the problem.

I carefully follow all the instructions I can find to resolve the problem, but obviously, I’m missing something, because the cursor is always at the top of the document.

I may have discovered a fix. I did a LMDE 6 upgrade on one machine and a new install on another. The problem wasn’t there on the new install but neither was my collection of custom spellings. Copying the standard.dic file to the new install brought the cursor problem with it. Renaming standard.dic to standard.old and restarting Libroffice fixed the cursor problem on both machines
