Writer linked images stopped displaying in all documents

Have been using version 4.x.x.x of Libre Office for many years under several version of Windows (now Windows 10). Have many Writer documents with linked images. About a week ago, images in all files stopped displaying and now just show the link. Had not edited the files, simply opened them up and images were no longer showing. Image files have not been moved or altered. Not aware of any system changes that happened before problem started. Tools > Options > Writer > View, Graphics & Objects is checked (always has been). Here are some things I have tried:

Right click an image and select ‘replace’. Link to same image file and the image appears. Will work normally until saved, closed and re-opened the file. Then only links are showing again.

Upgraded to Libre Office version 5.2.5.1, but problem still remains.

Tried copying odt and image files to a different hard drive partition. Same problem.

An image will display normally if it is embedded instead of linked, but that is not an acceptable solution.

Uninstalled, rebooted then reinstalled Libre Office 5.2.5.1. Problem still remains.

Saved odt file as a Microsoft Word Document docx file. Opened the docx file in Writer and the images appeared.

Created a new Writer document. Added a small (5 KB) image. Image displayed normally. Saved and then re-opened file and only the image link displayed.

Created a new Draw document. Added same image as above. Image displayed normally. Saved and then re-opened file and the image still showed normally. So, not a problem in Draw.

Created a new Calc document. Added same image as above. Image displayed normally. Saved and then re-opened file and only the image link displayed. So, same problem is occurring in Calc.

Copied an odt file and images to another computer. Images show normally on that computer.

How do I get all the images to show again in all the files?

Problem solved: Was due to User Profile corruption. See instructions for resolving User Profile corruption at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Resolving_corruption_in_the_user_profile.
Note that after you create the new profile you may want to copy some files from the old profile. For example, …user\wordbook\standard.dic if you added words to the dictionary or …user\Basic if you created any Basic macros.

I’ve done this twice and it hasn’t worked for me.

All the answers to this problem are useless so far.
Profile corruption checking in particular was a waste of time for me.

Incidentally, linked images show up on the LibreOffice startup page.
