Writer requires authentication

On Ubuntu, creating a document, then saving it works OK. But then when I try to ‘close’ the document, I get a prompt to enter a password; I didn’t set a password. Then I get an error message that “authentication required for file operations”. So I have to stop the application!

The file is local to my computer, not on a network, not on a google drive (saw references to these).

I’m about to remove Writer if this is how it is going to work!

This doesn’t seem to be a problem of LibreOffice at all but your Ubuntu system (see e.g. permissions - Authentication is required to perform file operations? - Ask Ubuntu). For sure you may abandon Writer and never again get noticed about a problem with your permissions. The problem itself won’t get fixed by that action.

Probably the message to provide a password is triggered by accessing a file or directory, which is **not** owned by the current user or where the current user doesn't have access to. The request for additional privileges doesn't come from LibreOffice but your desktop manager (GNOME, Unity, whatever you use)
Without any information about permissions on files and directories, file locations (paths and /tmp), defined paths in LibreOffice (if not standard) absolutely no diagnosis possible.
