Writer - Track Changes - Paragraph Numbers - Brackets - Format

I need to submit court documents with changes from a previous version of the document highlighted.

I am using the track changes feature in Writer to highlight the changes to version 2 of the document. Note that the document is submitted to the Court with the changes highlighted. The changes are not accepted before the document is submitted.

The standard for the court document is that new paragraphs are inserted between existing paragraphs by suffixing a letter to the number.

E.G

Version 1. Paragraph numbering.
1.
2.
3.
4.

Version 2. Paragraph numbering with new inserted paragraphs 1E and 3E as required by the Court.
1.
1A
2.
3.
3A
4.

My problem is that Writer uses the following numbering system for tracked paragraph insertions.

3.[2].
4.[3].
5.
6.[4].

Writer says paragraph 3 was paragraph 2, paragraph 4 was paragraph 3 and paragraph 6 was paragraph 4. Paragraphs 2 and 5 are new.

How do I modify the default behavior of Writer with respect to tracked changes and paragraph numbering so as to comply with the standard required by the Court?

What you request is not the internal “technical” Track Changes indicator. The Track Changes feature is a tool for author’s benefit to showall changes, including formatting, spelling correction, …

You request an “evolution marker” device for quick spotting additions. This is not possible with built-in Track Changes presently.

I emphasised word “addition”. If you don’t require positive indication of deletion (which can however be suggested by overstriking), there should be a possibility provided additions only occur in numbered lists.

More information is needed to suggest a solution. The most important bit is save format: the lead I’m thinking of resuires the use of styles, notably list styles which don’t exist in DOCX. Therefore your document must be saved .odt. Are you familiar with styles? How do you format your document. Mention also OS name and LO version because there are subtle differences.
