Writer: use of 'Text' on Gallery objects

Hi Everyone,

a newbie to Libreoffice writer question:

I’ve inserted several from Gallery > Diagrams on a document and I see “Text” written there on several of the objects.

I’m trying to type some text on the object but clicking “Text” produces no result.

Is the word “Text” actually a part of the Object?

If not how do you click on it to type something on the object?

If “Text” is actually part of the object then that seems pretty useless … I mean you’d have to erase “Text” in some way as I’m sure most people don’t want to put an object with the word “Text” on a document…

Above a nice Gallery object I’d like to use but… clicking on “Text” produces no result…
How do I insert desired text into it?

Is there some way I can now mark this whole post as “solved” at the top?

@abuzak , it is marked !

It is marked

…but… clicking on “Text”…

Try double-click !

Thanks for the quick response.

I’ve already tried double-clicking: that produces a popup interface with several tabs (Type, Options, Wrap, Hyperlink etc).

I searched through all these tabs but nothing to indicate a way to insert desired text into the Gallery Diagrams object.

Any other ideas?

I’ve already tried double-clicking

That is the right way.

@LeroyG , Yes, that is a bug

Thanks again for quick response!

I see you’re on 7.2 - I updated to be sure and it seems that the latest version for me is 7.1.6.2

not sure if that’s relevant but I’m doubting it as the layout seems similar to yours though there are some settings that differ:

Anyways I see when you place your single arrow cursor and double click on the object the cursor changes to a four-directional arrow and then to the editing bar (| with horizontal lines at top and bottom) when you place it over ‘Text’

My cursor doesn’t do that it - stays as a four-directional arrow.

Is there some setting somewhere that has to be changed to get Writer to behave like yours?

Drag the diagram from the Gallery.

Don’t insert the diagram with secondary click and Insert.

Tested in LibreOffice 7.1.7.2, on Windows 6.3.

Maybe there is a bug here.

EDIT: Neither drag nor insert works in version 7.1.7.2 on Windows 10.0. But drag and copy works in Impress and Draw.
EDIT 2: On Linux 4.12, drag and context menu Copy works, not with context menu Insert.

See tdf#108264.

Thanks @LeroyG the drag and insert worked!

Interesting question of whether it is a bug, the bug site seems to be down at the moment so I can’t check.
In LO 6.4.7.2, Insert (or drag or copy) gallery items, inserts as image and there is no text included.
The grouped shapes is new for version 7 and is a step forward. For me on Windows 10 with 7.1.7.2 and 7.2.2.2 both dragging and context menu Copy (& paste) work to insert the grouped objects. The Insert context menu item inserts a png instead; maybe it should be labelled Insert as png because sometimes (not in this case with the text) a png is what you want.
