Writer vs. Word line spacing mismatch

When I use Writer to open a 1-page document created in Word it becomes stretched to 2 pages. Text actually takes about 30% more. Same font name and size in Writer, same single spacing as in Word.
Line spacing is visually wider than in Word. Is is possible? Am I missing anything?
Please advise.

Do you have the same font in Writer as the Word document uses? If the font name is italicised in the Font Name box then the font is missing from that computer and a substitute has been used. A substituted font might have different metrics.

Are the paper sizes the same? Word has a habit of changing A4 paper size to Letter on the fly.

You might want to look at Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Compatibility, help online particularly the bit about Do not add leading (extra space) between lines of text

Basically:

Always create and save your files in LibreOffice and save them in ODF format (ODT, ODS, etc.).
Always keep these files as their source. If you need other formats for distribution to partners, you can open an ODF file and save and distribute another format with ″ Save as… ″.

This way, you always have working files available in your system environment.
