Writer will not print user-defined page/paper size

Writer cannot print a user-defined page size (‘User’ in Format → Page → Page tab → Paper Format → Format). Print preview shows the correctly formatted page. However, the print dialog resets the paper size to the printer default (A4 - page justified top left) and this is how it is printed, even though the option ‘Use only paper size from printer preferences’ is NOT ticked (ditto paper tray). Paper size and orientation options are greyed out in the print dialog.

Standard paper sizes (such as ‘A5’, ‘legal’ or ‘letter’) print correctly. Older documents with a ‘User’ page size created or modified pre-2016 also print with the specified user size.

Deleting the user profile (in case of corruption) does not resolve the issue.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? I can’t see anything like it in this forum, so I’d appreciate any thoughts.

Using LO v5.1.3.2, upgraded from v4 a few months ago, with OpenSuse 13.2 with hpcups v3.14.6 driver for an HP Officejet 6700 printer which supports variable width/length paper sizes.
