no menus just toolbars with icons

I downloaded LibreOffic[e 7 on my new laptop. I have no menus, just toolbars with icons at the top and bottom. I opened it in safe mode and configured, checking disable hardware acceleration and clicked on save changes and restart. It did not change anything.
I also went to settings and clicked on repair and restarted and it didn’t help. What else do I need to do?

You should supply your operating system and version.

On the off-chance that you have selected the Tabbed Compact user interface then just click the little green icon at the left of your screen to toggle menu visibility.

I have Windows Home Version 1909 updated on 12-25-20 installed on a Dell XPS 2 in 1 laptop. I don’t have the icons you show at the top. I have 2 rows. The first one on the top left opens a new document, the next an existing one, the next is save icon. I do no have File, Edit, View, Insert, Format…above the icons. The only words are default paragraph style and the name of the font. On the bottom of the screen there is find window and page functions. I wish I could insert an image as you did. I tried copying one onto here but that didn’t work. I will try re-installing and see if that helps. It’s possible I installed the wrong version as I have been using this app for years on other devices with no issues.

Reinstall of 7.0.3.1 Win_x64.msi resulted in same issue

I am guessing that you have chosen Groupedbar Compact in View > User Interface. If so, at the right hand end of the lower toolbar is a heading Menu, click on the arrow and click Menubar.

If it isn’t that User Interface then search through the icons for the Menubar icon. It will be there except for Single Toolbar which always shows the menu after opening, even f it was previously hidden.

Alternatively, right-click a toolbar, select Customise and add Menubar to your icons. Cheers, Al

2 hours later

You have Standard toolbar I think.

Right click the toolbar over the icons and select Customise from the context menu

  1. In the dialog that comes up, in the left pane find and select Menubar

  2. In the right pane click on an icon that you would like the Menubar icon to appear beside

  3. Click the right-facing arrow to add the Menubar icon

  4. Click OK

Back in the main screen of the LO program click the Menubar icon to toggle visibility of the menus

Since reinstalling I have not touched or chosen anything. There are no words other than those mentioned above…no menu, menu bar, no insert, review, file, format, etc. Before re installing, I had clicked on every icon, arrow, etc. about 50 of them before asking question here. The only menu I found was on 3 dots on right side and includes properties, page, styles, gallery, navigator, undock, close sidebar, customization . Under customization , there is page, styles, gallery, navigator, restore default. I tried restore default and navigator but nothing changed. If it helps I can hover over every icon and tell you what the descriptor says, Right clicking does nothing no matter where I click ( on top where icons are, on bottom where find window and page is. No other issues with laptop so far and have run all diagnostics, update drivers every 2 days, run Eset antivirus daily etc. I have not contacted Dell support as they only support hardware not software issues.

You can add a screenshot by clicking edit on your question, clicking at the bottom of you text then clicking the slide icon next to the paperclip

Ok it said I have to do it within 10 mins. so I will try with this comment.

Added it at bottom of original question. I hope this works. I really appreciate all your help on this.

From the screenshot accompanying your question, it seems the window is too small to show all the items in your toolbars. Have you explored the hidden icons by clicking on the right-pointing arrows at the right-hand end of the visible toolbars?

Thanks! I changed user interface from Standard to Tabbed and found personalization under options and made some changes to make it easier for my old eyes to see. Removed a lot of icons through customization but now there is huge white spaces in between ones I use. Oh well, close enough. Thanks again.
