recently installed LO 7.3.7.2 on clean install of Linux mint 21.2
When updating existing documents, the single-quote or apostrophe character now leans to the right - it looks like it is italic but it isn’t. The single-quote or apostrophe on tall he existing documents are straight-up. How can I change the leaning one to the straight-up one ?
Please upload an ODF type sample file. Use the a most common Font what everyone has who have installed the LibreOffice.
This is probably an effect of AutoCorrect to replace straight quotes by “typographical quotes”. Since these quotes depend on the language (curly quotes, angle quotes, …) and you barely find them in common keyboard layouts, Writer will “automatically” transform straight quotes and straight wuotation marks into those recommended by your language traditional typography.
This feature is controlled by Tools
>AutoCorrect
>AutoCorrect Options
, Localized Options
tab.
Since you “clean installed” Mint 21.2, you likely also erased your user profile (if you didn’t isolate /home from the install process), resetting everything to factory state.
So configure the setting to your taste. Unfortunately, you must retype the transformed quotes or use Edit
>Find & Replace
.
I confirm my diagnostic: AutoCorrect is configured to replace open apostrophe with U+2018 and closing apostrophe with U+2019
LibreOffice replcaces straight quotes with typographic ones which is what most people expect from a word processor.
Turn it off for the entire office suite in menu:Tools>AutoCorrect>AutoCorrect Options…
Turn it off for all new documents derived from factory settings: menu:Tools>Options>Languages>LanguageSettings>Western Language=[None]
Turn it off for the current document: same language setting with “Current document only” being checked.
Turn it off for a template: same as above with the template loaded for editing.
Turn it off for a paragraph style: modify the language on the font tab of the paragraph style properies.
Turn it off for a character style: modify the language on the font tab of the character style properies.
Same with Calc’s cell styles and templates.
Thanks for the feedback. But it is not a “solution” to your problem. You should instead click on the gray ticked rectangle below the contribution you consider closest to “the” solution. After that, please delete your “non-answer”.
