Auto/manual LO updates Libre Office

In resolving an issue, I noticed 25.2 was available today (9th Feb 2025). When I manually checked for updates in 24.8.x it returned none available. Auto Update in the LO Options appears not to have detected it either.

As to why this happened gives rise to two possibilities: 1) LO Foundation not yet flagged 25.2 as available for download. 2) The update check process cannot detect the availability, although it is available for automatic download.

25.2 came available today.
When it comes time for LibreOffice to check depends on the settings in Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Online Update and when it was last checked.

.
It is not in anyone’s interest for everyone to download the update at the exact same time, it leads to slowness and server unavailability.

.
Personally, I turn off automatic updates for my work installation. I prefer to update at the end of a project, not the middle.

For the 24.8 version, updates will continue, see the Release plan, Release Plan 24.8 - The Document Foundation Wiki
